Summer Series events provide support for community groups while showing off some of premium vendors from The Wānaka Wine & Food Festival
The first Ripe – Summer Series event will be a long lunch in the sun on January 15 at Hook’s award-winning salmon farm and cafe in Albert Town, complemented by a range of Maude wines with knowledgeable wine experts on hand to discuss wine and food matching.
The second Ripe – Summer Series event is an evening experience at Lipsky & Sons, off Cardrona Valley Road, a week later. A four-course dinner will be paired with Cloudy Bay wines from the winery’s Central Otago and Marlborough vineyards.
Otago Event Planning and Ripe owner Nathan White says the two events are designed to pay tribute to some of the top culinary talents of the region while raising money for an essential not-for-profit organisation.
“Wānaka is incredibly fortunate to have some first-class restaurants and wineries and we are looking forward to exhibiting some of our favourites, as well as raising money for an organisation that contributes so much to our community,” Nathan said.
Community Networks manager and foodbank coordinator Kate Murray said the organisation is delighted to be the beneficiary of the fundraising initiative.
“The funds raised from this initiative will go straight to helping the people of Wānaka. The foodbank is a confidential service that’s available to anyone and everyone – our shelves are always stocked and there’s always someone available to lend a hand or offer a listening ear,” she said.
While Maude and Hook will have their own sites at the Wine & Food Festival, the chance to pair up for the Ripe – Summer Series created the perfect opportunity for Maude Wines to showcase the taste of summer in the beautiful setting of Hook, you can bet some of their best drops will be on show at the Otago Anniversary weekend festival too.
The second part to this Ripe – Summer Series gives a sneak peak to March 21st, as these two heavyweights will also be teaming up in the “Central Markets” area of the Wānaka Wine & Food Festival. Lipsky & Sons have promised to bring their famous seafood bar to the festival, rumours going around suggest bluff oysters will be included on the menu, of course Cloudy Bay wines will match oh so perfectly.
Now to the main event…The last Wānaka local to join the food line up is Big Fig, Slow food – served fast is the name of their game so expect some tasty options this March 21st! Heading down the road we find new Luggate based foodtruck team Fox & Badger, the fox & badger themselves will be dishing up choice foods for all, including vegan, vegetarian, & gluten free friends.
Now, could you imagine a more suitable Wine & Food Festival vendor than The Stoaker Room… the Cromwell locals steam, bake, grill and smoke local foods in their French Oak Pinot Noir Barrel Cookers (A..MAZING)
With restaurants all over NZ including The Mall Queenstown, Hawker & Roll will add to the variety on offer for your taste buds. Encompassing the flavours of Malaysian inspired street-eats focussing on vibrant and authentic flavours. The heart of the menu—the hawker roll—is a rolled roti (flakey and delicious) stuffed with your favourite flavours straight from the streets of Malaysia.
Last but definitely not least, festival favourites Wild Az. Chances are if you’ve ever been to a festival, they have served you up some classy treats. Thanks to their range of tasty meats and snacks, including their specialty pork belly burger, there will be no one going hungry from Ripe – The Wānaka Wine & Food Festival on March 21st.
The challenge….try something from each of these amazing food stalls!
Not to worry, there will be plenty of refreshments available to help you wash it down 😉
