About Ripe – The Wanaka Wine and Food Festival

The Ripe Story

Ripe is about the passion and energy for the best wine and food of our region and our country – backed by a deep respect, appreciation and knowledge for the industry.

Our producers have a deep connection to the land and a passion for the product, and we want to celebrate this while bringing a boost to the local economy.

Ripe was created by Wānaka resident Nathan White, with a passion for Central Otago wine, he set out to showcase the regions world-class producers to NZ and the world (one-day). The inaugural event was a major success, gaining credibility as a new player in the list of NZ’s best wine & food events. The 2021 edition of Ripe – The Wānaka Wine & Food Festival was nominated in the prestigious NZEA Event Awards – Best Lifestyle event of the year category, confirming what Nathan knew all along, Central Otago has all the ingredients to make it one of the premium spots in NZ for Wine & Food showcasing.

From crisp Sauvignon  Blancs  and Chardonnays to earthy Pinot  Noirs,  the Central Otago region is a unique land of extreme climates  producing internationally acclaimed vintages.  Ripe is a passionate demonstration of that abundance, quality and vibrancy. With more than  30 vineyards and food producers in attendance,  festival-goers  get treated to a showcase of the region’s best.

We aim to bring communities together, celebrating our region and our local producers of fine wine, food, and entertainment.
